Are There Age Requirements for Renting a Vehicle?
Yes. The minimum age to rent any vehicle is 21 years, except for Luxury, Premium, and Full-size categories, which require a minimum age of 25. Renters aged 19-20 can rent FWD and smaller family cars with a young renter's fee.

How Do I Handle Tolls and Fees During My Rental?
All tolls and fees incurred during your rental should be paid directly at the time they occur, either on the spot or online. If you're unable to pay immediately, you can settle these charges through a local bank or directly with us at SAGA Car Rental, although an administrative fee will apply.
What Happens If the Car I Selected Is Unavailable?
In the event that your selected vehicle is unavailable, we'll provide you with a similar car or offer a free upgrade to the next higher class, ensuring your satisfaction and comfort during your journey in Iceland.
What If I Return the Vehicle Late?
We understand plans can change, but please note we charge on a 24-hour basis. If you return the car late without prior notification, an additional day's rental fee will be charged. To avoid extra charges, please inform us if your return time changes.
Are There Any Road Tolls in Iceland?
Yes, Iceland has a tunnel toll for Vaðlaheiðargöng, located in the north near Akureyri. We advise paying this fee online before using the tunnel to ensure a smooth journey.
What Is Your Fuel Policy?
Our policy is full-to-full. You'll receive your rental car with a full tank of fuel and are expected to return it full, helping you control your fuel costs and only pay for what you use.
What Is the Battery Charge Policy for Electric Vehicles?
For electric vehicles, we ensure a minimum of 70% battery charge at pick-up. Similarly, we expect the vehicle to be returned with at least 70% charge. This policy helps us maintain readiness for the next customer and supports efficient use of the vehicle.
Dropping Off
Can I Return the Vehicle to a Different Location?
Absolutely! We offer the flexibility to return your vehicle at a different location from where you picked it up. Please note that a one-way fee applies for such returns, allowing us to manage our fleet across various locations efficiently.
Can I Drop Off the Vehicle Outside of Office Hours?
Yes, we understand your travel plans may not always align with our office hours. For your convenience, you can return your rental vehicle outside of office hours. Simply park the vehicle in our designated parking spots and deposit the keys in our secure key box.
- Park the Car: Park in the designated blue return spots outside the entrance.
- Drop Off Keys: Place the keys in the drop-off box located to the left of the return spots. Look for the sign marked "out-of-hours key drop-off."
- Get to the Airport: Call Airport Taxi at +354 420 1212 to arrange transport to the airport. Taxi fares range from €15-25 depending on the time and day.
What Should I Do If I Accidentally Leave Personal Items in the Vehicle?
If you realize you’ve left personal items in the vehicle after drop-off, please contact us as soon as possible. We will make every effort to locate and return your belongings. However, SAGA Car Rental is not responsible for lost items, so we recommend double-checking the vehicle before returning it.
Is There a Late Return Policy?
If you anticipate returning the vehicle later than the agreed time, please inform us in advance to adjust your rental agreement accordingly. Late returns without prior notice may incur additional charges, as they can affect the scheduling of rentals for other customers.
What Happens If I Return the Vehicle With Less Fuel Than Required?
Under our full-to-full fuel policy, if the vehicle is returned with less fuel than when it was picked up, you will be charged for the missing fuel plus a refueling administration fee. To avoid these charges, please refuel the vehicle to the same level as at pick-up before returning it.
Can I Extend My Rental Period at the Time of Drop-Off?
If you need to extend your rental period, it's best to contact us before your scheduled drop-off time. Extensions are subject to vehicle availability and additional charges will apply according to our current rates.
What Inspection Will Be Done Upon Drop-Off?
Upon return, a quick inspection of the vehicle will be conducted to check for any new damages and to ensure the fuel policy has been adhered to. This process is straightforward and is designed to ensure the vehicle's condition is consistent with the rental agreement.
Are There Any Fees for Excessive Cleaning?
Yes, if the vehicle is returned in a condition that requires excessive cleaning or has been smoked in, a cleaning fee will be charged. To avoid this, please keep the vehicle clean and adhere to the no-smoking policy.

Can I Add a Roof Box to My Rental?

Yes, safety is our priority. Our fleet is equipped with studded winter tires during the Icelandic winter season, from 1st November to 14th April, ensuring you can travel safely during your winter adventures in Iceland.
