Road tolls in Iceland
In Iceland, you'll find just one road toll situated in the north, linking Akureyri and Húsavík. This toll is charged as you pass through the Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel.
Paying this toll is easy and digital. An automated system captures your car's license plate as you travel through the tunnel, allowing for an online payment process.

When to pay
- The trip remains valid for 24 hours following payment.
- Payment can be made within 24 hours of passage.
- Beyond this 24-hour period, the invoice will be issued to the vehicle's owner.
- Payments made either before or after this 24-hour window are non-refundable.
Insert the license plate number
Ensure you input the license plate number of your rental vehicle correctly. A paid trip is not refundable if a mistake is made when entering the license plate number.
Select Single- or Round trip
No adjustments are required from you. Just ensure the license plate number you've entered is accurate.
Insert your payment details
Then confirm the payment.
When the payment is confirmed your have 24 hours to utilize your trip.
