Essential Rental Terms and Conditions 

Rental Requirements:

- A credit card in the name of the person renting the vehicle is mandatory.
- We accept debit cards and prepaid credit cards only when the Premium Protection package is purchased.
- The credit card must remain valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the vehicle's scheduled return date.
- The credit card must be presented in its physical form at the time of rental.
- A valid driver's license is required for all rentals.

Credit Card Policy

A valid credit card in the renter’s name is required at pickup. Requirements for the credit cards are the following:

- Credit cardholder must be the same as the Renter.

- Credit card must be brought physically.

- Debit cards and prepaid credit cards are accepted if the customer purchases the Premium Protection package.

- Card used to prepay the rental online must be presented at pickup.

- A credit card must be valid for at least 6 months after the return.

- Cash payments are not accepted.

Driver License Policy

All drivers must present their valid driver licenses upon pickup, the renter is permitted to designate another driver in his/her place if he/she chooses not to drive.

A valid drivers’ license with Latin letters is sufficient. If the drivers’ license does not have Latin letters the driver must provide an International driver license. Please note that all International driver licenses must always be presented at pick up with the national driver’ license.

You can rent a car even if you have a brand new driver's license but please read below about minimum driver's age.

Minimum drivers age is 21 years old. Drivers aged 19-20 years old can rent cars in the small car and family car categories for an extra young driver fee which you can see on our extras page. See further information about car classes on our cars page.

Flexible cancellation and refund policy

You can easily and quickly cancel your car rental booking by contacting us. Remember to include your reservation number which you can find in the confirmation e-mail (reservation number starts with an LP).


Our cancellation and refund policy is the following:

- For cancellations made before the pickup time, we refund 100% of the paid amount. If you have any questions regarding the this, do not hesitate to contact us.


Early returns

Our early return and refund policy is the following:
- For modifications we refund 100% of the unused days.


Extensions

- Extensions depend on availability at each given time. For an available vehicle, extra charges are applied according to the extension and the rental price. No extra fee is charged for the modification.

- Please note that if the rental is paid through a 3rd party but not extended through that 3rd party then Saga Car Rental Iceland rates apply.

- Extensions are not considered accepted until the renter has both signed a new rental contract which is done electronically and paid for the extension.

Please note:

- It can take 3-10 business days for a refund to appear on your credit card statement. If you do not see the amount on your credit card statement at that time we suggest you contact your credit card company.

- Prepaid credit cards are accepted if the renter purchases the Premium protection package.

Airport locations

Reservations will be held for two (2) hours past the reserved pick-up time, except if you contact us to change your arrival time. Two hours after the reserved pick-up time the reserved vehicle will be made available to other customers. If you arrive at the locations later than two hours after the reserved pick-up time, we will try to provide a vehicle for you, however, availability cannot be guaranteed.

In case of a flight delay whereby the new arrival time is outside the pick-up locations opening hours, the location will remain open, provided the correct flight number is present in the reservation and the carrier or operator has notified of the delay and the new arrival time. Out of hours fee applies after opening hours.


Applies to the following locations:

  • Keflavik International Airport when arriving by flight
  • Akureyri Airport


NON-Airport locations

Reservations will be held for two (2) hours past the reserved pick-up time, except if you “contact us” to change your arrival time. Two hours after the reserved pick-up time the reserved vehicle will be made available to other customers. If you arrive at the location more than two hours after the reserved pick-up time the reserved vehicle will be made available to other customers. If you arrive at the location more than two hours after the reserved pick-up time, we will try to provide a vehicle for you, however, availability cannot be guaranteed.

If the location closes within that two hour period and you fail to pick up the vehicle, the reservation will expire at the closing time of the location.


Applies to the following locations:

  • Keflavik International Airport when not arriving by flight
  • Reykjavik City office
  • Akureyri Down Town office

Administration fees and other charges

Make sure you know our administration fees and other charges which you can easily avoid if you follow the terms and conditions of the rental contract. Read carefully. It is of great importance that you make sure to pay for parking, follow speed limits and make sure to fill up the car with fuel before you return it. This can save you money.

Emergency assistance

If a renter is responsible for immobilizing a vehicle and Saga needs to assist the renter an emergency assistance fee applies according to the following:

If the car rental agency/renter has to use a 3rd party to rescue or fetch the vehicle the emergency assistance fee will be according to the rescuing party's pricelist which the renter should familiarize himself/herself with. Saga car rental will always charge the emergency starting fee of 25.000 ISK.
